Timesheet Approvals for Jira
Your team already logs work in Jira. Timesheet Approvals adds the missing step: each person submits their week, an approver approves it or sends it back with a reason, and approved weeks are locked as a snapshot for reporting and invoicing.
Updated ·
What it does
Weekly submit, approve or send back, and billing-ready reports on top of native Jira worklogs. No resource planning, no cost suites and no separate time database. Free for up to 10 users; paid plans are billed by Atlassian through the Atlassian Marketplace.
1. Set approvers
Open Jira settings → Apps → Timesheet Approvals settings and pick the people who approve timesheets. If no approvers are set, Jira administrators approve. Self-approval is off unless you turn it on.
2. Submit a week
Open Apps → Timesheets → My timesheet. Log work in Jira as usual, open the week, add an optional note and select Submit week for approval. You can resubmit a week until it is approved.
3. Approve or send back
The Approvals tab lists submitted weeks with the exact worklogs that were submitted. Approve locks the snapshot. Send back requires a reason, which the person sees on their week; they can correct their worklogs and resubmit.
4. Run a report
On the Reports tab, choose a date range and optionally a JQL filter such as project = ACME, then run the report. Totals are shown per person together with each week's approval status, and you can copy the result as CSV for invoicing or payroll. Reports respect each user's Jira permissions and cover up to 500 issues per run.
Permissions the app requests
read:jira-work reads issues and worklogs to build weekly timesheets and reports. read:jira-user checks whether the current user is a Jira administrator and powers the approver picker. storage:app stores timesheet submissions, approval history and settings. The app never edits or rewrites worklogs, so worklogAuthor in JQL stays accurate.
Data and security
The app runs entirely on Atlassian Forge and makes no requests outside Atlassian. Submissions, approval records and settings are stored in Forge app storage for your site; we, the provider, cannot access them. See the privacy policy for details.
